Swiss cities are facing the consequences of Corona: in Zurich…

Nothing works in Switzerland Tourism (ST) without Roger Federer (41). The tennis star promotes the beauty of Switzerland with Hollywood greats like Robert De Niro (79) or Anne Hathaway (39), smiles from the website or sits in Basel am Rein.
Background: Swiss cities are missing foreign guests since Corona. Tourists did not return even in the first half of 2022, and the number of overnight stays continued to decline. There’s still “a lot” missing before the numbers from the 2019 return. ST director Martin Nydegger (51) says customers in large Asian markets such as China, India or Korea are still almost completely absent.
Guests from Italy, Spain or Great Britain, as well as from abroad, are still rare. According to Nydegger, however, things are currently looking better for guests from France, Germany or the Benelux countries.
In any case, the “run the Swiss cities” campaign is now supposed to save the cities. And so sporty tourists will soon pass through Basel, Geneva, Lugano and Zurich. And walk through the sweat-drenched sights or admire the closeness of nature in the cities.
Refreshment Tip from Roger Federer
It seems to be particularly tedious in Basel. In the ad, the exhausted runner stops on one side of the Rhine, resting his hands on his knees. Federer then advises him to cool off at Breit’s Rhinebad.
The collaboration with running shoe company On, which includes Federer, is likely to be worth more than the tennis star’s brief appearance. With Switzerland tourism, sporty visitors are to be brought closer to the running and training grounds in Swiss cities.
It is not known what Switzerland tourism is charging for the campaign with Federer’s commitment and on. In any case, the potential is great: 4 out of 10 people describe themselves as runners. If only a fraction of them pass through Swiss cities and go sightseeing in the future, the number of overnight stays could rise again. In and on, running shoe sales may continue to grow.
