Pamplin Media Group – Jayapal wins second term on Multnomah County board


Incumbent Susheela Jayapal gained a big lead in the race for the District 2 seat on the board.

Jayapal, who represents District 2 on the board, currently has 77% of the vote, early unofficial voting results Tuesday, May 17, show.

Challengers Derry Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor Dixon have 14% and 7% of the vote, respectively.

Jayapal, who was first elected to the board in 2018, has said she’s determined to continue making progress on the issues she focused on during her first term, including racial justice, domestic violence, homeless services, and immigrant and refugee rights. The county’s ongoing response to the pandemic also is a top priority, she says.

Before being elected to the board, Jayapal worked as a lawyer, serving last as general counsel for Adidas America.

Jackson is a teacher and former Portland Public Schools board member.

Taylor Dixon is a retired former corporate sales and management training at Xerox who also worked for former state Sen. Bill McCoy.
