HOW long should you stay in your job? While the average worker used to remain in the same role for nine years according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, this has now dropped to five as Brits become more comfortable with change.

But which careers – or companies – should you choose if you want long-term job security?

1. Look for an employer which values promoting from within 

Check out the LinkedIn profile of senior bosses.

Have they been with the company from entry level and moved up? If so, you can do the same.

3. Train and upskill:

5. Look for a future-proofed sector

Some sectors will perform better in the future than others, and these will also provide long-term careers.
