Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End may have been released several years ago now, but a PS5 remaster, a PC release and even a film adaptation has meant Naughty Dog’s action-adventure has stayed in the conversation — but it helps a lot that Nathan Drake’s swan song is just a great video game.
After you’ve finished the award-winning campaign, you have the option to play through it all over again with a brand-new wardrobe, as you can spend points to change the appearance of the main characters. Sadly none of the skins from previous games return — no more creepy skeleton skins — but we’ve listed the very best below.
10/10 Nadine Ross (Auction)
Given that Nadine spends most of the game getting into scrapes in Scotland, Madagascar and other Indian Ocean islands, there’s some fun to be had by having the mercenary stay in her glitzy auction getup for the rest of the game. Nadine’s already proven she’s more than a match for Nathan Drake in this skin, so treasure hunting on remote islands in heels should be a breeze.
Bonus points if you also equip Nathan and Samuel with their auction dinner jackets for the big three-person fistfight on Libertalia — no reason such dirty business can’t be done in style.
9/10 Rafe Adler (Island End)
It must be said that the skin selection image shows Rafe with his sword, which naturally gives this skin a bit of a boost in the rankings. However, for anyone who’s played the final boss fight against Rafe, you’ll surely remember how terrifying he was with his tough sword skills, angry taunts and ice-cold expressions despite the fire raging around him.
It was Rafe at his most villainous — and surely that’s the Rafe skin you’d want equipped the entire game.
8/10 Nathan Drake (Office)
Nathan Drake in an office initially felt like an odd fit, so it was a relief when the treasure hunter finally got back into the field with some more exciting knitwear. However, now you can make Nathan’s office getup feel even more out-of-place by keeping it on throughout his final adventure, seeing him beat up henchmen and swing through jungles in a basic grey top and jeans.
Just another day at the office for Nathan Drake…
7/10 Nathan Drake (Jumpsuit)
Even odder than seeing Nathan in his office attire the whole game is seeing him in this rather fetching jumpsuit throughout this key time in his life. The jumpsuit only makes a brief appearance when Nathan, Sam and Sully infiltrate the Rossi estate auction in Italy before quickly switching to tuxedos, so having such a minor outfit suddenly available throughout the entire game will certainly raise a chuckle.
Though you may struggle to take the more emotional scenes seriously…
6/10 Elena Fisher (Island)
Given the lack of skins from previous games — at least in the single-player mode — Elena’s island getup is perhaps the closest we get to a throwback skin. Elena’s outfit here is a purple tank top and jeans, evoking Elena’s outfit island outfit in the first game and bringing things full circle somewhat.
As with Nathan Drake, it is the island skin that most closely matches Elena’s iconic look and is your best option for a skin to last the entire game.
5/10 Victor Sullivan (Madagascar)
When you think of fan-favourite character Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan, you don’t think of Mark Wahlberg, but instead of that iconic mustache, Havana shirt and cargo trousers — which is exactly what the Madagascar skin is made up of.
While the Island skin works just as well, the red shirt better matches Sully’s usual bright attire as well as his playful personality. For better or for worse, there’s no young Sully skin this time — Wahlberg or otherwise…
4/10 Samuel Drake (Waiter)
While Nathan and Sully go for standard tuxedos when infiltrating the Rossi estate auction, Sam disguises himself as a waiter and therefore has a slightly different — but still smart — getup defined by a striking red blazer. So if you’d like to see Sam get the shift from hell and break out of prison, get in several fistfights and even a motorbike chase while dressed as a waiter, well now you can.
It also makes some of the more serious moments a tad sillier — nothing like big family revelations between serving tables.
3/10 Nathan Drake (Auction)
In true action movie style, Nathan has a tussle in a tuxedo while at the Rossi estate auction, but now you can go full James Bond and have Nate don the tux throughout the entire game. It actually works better than a lot of the other skin options available and does admittedly look cool in most of the game’s scenarios, even if it is highly impractical.
You can also equip Sam and Sully in their auction skins for the boyband you didn’t know you needed.
2/10 Nathan Drake (Dive Suit)
It had to be done — Nathan’s dive suit, which only appeared briefly at the beginning of the game, is available as an outfit, and it’s one of the greatest and undoubtedly the goofiest skin in Uncharted 4.
Whether Nathan is beating up enemies, entering a high society auction, or having a meaningful conversation with his wife, absolutely every scenario is improved by Nathan’s dive suit. Unlike earlier games, this is the closest we get to a joke outfit in A Thief’s End — so make the most of it.
1/10 Nathan Drake (Island)
As fun as some of the alternate costumes are, there’s no beating Nathan Drake’s iconic Henley shirt, cargo trousers and shoulder holsters combo seen on the cover and all the promos. Nathan has gone through a few different colour schemes over the years, but the overall look has remained the same, so much so that Tom Holland wore a variant in the film adaptation.
So if you’ve wanted to play the entirety of Uncharted 4 in this classic look, now you can — it fits in far more than most of Nathan’s other skins.
