Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. When will the massively high utility bills start coming down in Oceanside? The news from SDG&E seems to be going from bad to worse. Not only are local natural gas customers paying more than double what they paid just a year ago, but electricity rates are up, too. While SDG&E offers programs to help customers pay their bills, when the utility can’t collect, it will simply “roll that debt into electricity and natural gas rates.” Meaning: all customers end up paying more. However, relief may be in sight, as rates are expected to fall next month. (KPBS)
  2. A fire at the San Diego Coffee Co. late Saturday night didn’t cause serious damage, thanks to the fast response from local fire units from Oceanside, Carlsbad and Vista. The commercial coffee roaster used by the coffee company was on fire when firefighters arrived, but crews were able to put the fire out within minutes by manually activating the building’s sprinkler system. “The fire is currently under investigation by an Oceanside Fire Department investigator.” (Coast News)
  3. MiraCosta College is getting $1 million for the college’s Technology Career Institute’s (TCI) accelerated skills-based training programs. Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) was on hand Friday with officials and students from the college, to announce the funding secured through recent government legislation. The funds will be used to create “hands-on training courses to prepare students for jobs in high-skilled occupations in engineering, manufacturing, and biomedical equipment.” (Times of San Diego)
  4. Rich Cruse Photography captured these King Tide waves as they crashed over the south strand in Oceanside on Sunday. The recent storms have brought wild ocean waves over 10 feet that resulted in coastal flooding. (Yahoo News)
