Get your pets dressed in their Halloween best for Kearny’s annual Doggie PAWrade

Halloween isn’t just for people, it’s for pets too. Kearny is getting into the spirit of Halloween with their annual Doggie Halloween PAWrade and Festival on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Arlington Depot Park. Headlining the festival is the Doggie Halloween Costume Contest.
Families and dog lovers of all ages can head over to the park, off Midland Ave., between Elm and Forest streets, with their costume-clad pooches for the event sponsored by the Kearny Urban Enterprise Zone, K-9 Corner/Bone Appetit Spa and Dog Barkery and The Kearny Dog Walker.
Proof of a current dog license and an up-to-date rabies vaccine is required with complete registration. Pre-registration is available through Thursday, Oct. 27, online at https://bit.ly/3F5AGBm. You can download forms from www.kearnynj.org or pick up forms at Kearny Town Hall or K-9 Corner/Bone Appetit Barkery, 169 Midland Ave., Kearny.
Registration is also available on the day of the event; but sign up is only from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Anyone registering a pet should have the proper paperwork on them to register at the PAWrade.
The judges for this year’s festival will be Kearny Public Library Director Josh Humphrey; Kearny Council Member Peter Santana; and Alan Lambiase, KUEZ Board Chairman and Director of Sales and Leasing River Terminal Development Co.
A number of events are also currently scheduled, including free microchipping from Bone Appetit/K-9 Corner, which is limited to the first 30 dogs; a “Doggie Bone Yard” from The Kearny Dog Walker; Pet Art hosted by Kearny Bank; Training Tips from K9 Nanni; Holiday Dog Bandanas and Matching scrunchies by Auntie Ern; Kearny TNR & Kearny Community Cats; J’s Crafty Customs; Linc & Lous’ Bakery; treats for dogs and their humans from Curiosity by Intrinsic; a Doggie Halloween Balloon Photo Wall from The Fairy Yard Mother; a Meet & Greet with Clifford the Big Red Dog at the Kearny Library booth; a Pitty (Pit Bull) Kissing Fundraising Booth; Dog & Human Halloween Cookie Decorating from Imagine Cookies by Maya; Arlington Dog & Cat Hospital; Snacks and raffles courtesy of Kearny Shop Rite.
Other activities and crafts will be hosted by the Arlington Junior Woman’s Club, Kearny Girl Scout Troop 2771, and the West Hudson Arts & Theater Company among others. The festival will also have live entertainment by the Swampgrass Jug Band.
